SHOUT SISTER SHOUT!

Inspired by Gayle F. Wald’s book Shout, Sister, Shout! The Untold Story of Rock-and-Roll Trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, this new musical tells the story of Sister Rosetta Tharpe—one of America’s most influential rock-and-roll, R&B and gospel crossover singers and guitarists. Ambitious, courageous and uncompromisingly public, Tharpe became a pioneer of the women’s movement for racial and sexual equality and is a musical legend who redefined the national and international music scene in the 1930s.

The creative team features playwright Cheryl L. West (Jar the Floor, Holiday Heart), director Kenneth L. Roberson (Avenue Q, All Shook Up, Freak), production supervisor Sheldon Epps (Former Artistic Director, Pasadena Playhouse), music director Sheilah V. Walker (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, Ragtime), orchestrator Joseph Joubert (Caroline, or  Change, Motown the Musical, The Color Purple), choreographer William Carlos Angulo (The MUNY's Legally Blonde, On Your Feet!), associate director and dramaturg Tyler Rhodes (A Night With Janis Joplin), associate music director Victor Simonson (Three Mo' Divas), and associate choreographer Emily Madigan (Guthrie Theatre's West Side Story).
