UNCLE VANYA

Hunter Theater Project’s ecstatically reviewed debut production of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, featuring what Brantley called a “career-high performance” from Jay O. Sanders in the title role, completed its run on Sunday, November 18, 2018.

The New York premiere of a new translation by Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky, and directed by Nelson, Uncle Vanya was described by Peter Marks,Washington Post, as “a heart-piercing production, as sublime as I’ve ever seen Chekhov performed.” Terry Teachout, The Wall Street Journal, praised it as “successful in every way,” going on to write that “Jay O. Sanders scores a decisive triumph in the title role.” Finally, Jennifer Vanasco, WNYC, declared, “This is theater at its best. If you haven’t understood why people love Chekhov’s plays, this is the production that will win you over.”

Uncle Vanya featured Celeste Arias (Eléna), Alice Cannon (Márya), Jon DeVries (Alexánder), Kate Kearney-Patch (Marína), Jesse Pennington (Mikhaíl), Jay O. Sanders (Vanya), and Yvonne Woods (Sonya).
